FORT ERIE TO RUN QUARTER HORSES

July 27, 2010 - The Ontario Racing Commission has approved Fort Erie racetrack's application for American Quarter Horse dates. The track will race three full Quarter Horse cards on Saturdays, October 2, 9 and 16.

The track is located in Fort Erie, Ontario, across the Niagra River from Buffalo, New York, and about 96 miles from Toronto. It is about 2.5 hours from Ajax Downs, which races every Sunday through October 17 and Tuesdays through September 28.

Fort Erie, which first opened in 1897, will host live Thoroughbred racing from May through October.

Fort Erie last hosted Quarter Horse races in 1977. From 1973-75, the track hosted one race per year. In 1976 they hosted 32 races during a four-day meet and in 1977, eight races over one day.
